The pinblock is one of the most important parts of the piano. The pinblock holds the tuning pins and quite literally allows the piano to hold a tune. Shoreline Piano uses the highest quality hard-rock maple to craft new pinblocks – which are custom duplicated from the original for each and every piano.
The raw unshaped hard-rock maple is rough cut into shape using the old pinblock as a stencil. The new pinblock is then fit to the piano by carefully shaping it against the piano’s cast iron plate.
The plate is then used to mark all of the holes for the tuning pins. The holes are marked on the centers and they are all drilled at a 7° angle.
