This immaculately restored Steinway L is proof positive of why Steinway & Sons are regarded as the kings of pianos and why the 1920's were their best era.
The restoration on this Steinway L was thorough and complete and the results are spectacular...
The case was completely refinished in Satin Ebony using Steinway's classic hand rubbed technique. The casters, lid hinges, continuous hinges, pedals and other assorted hardware were all replaced with new Steinway nickel hardware. Additionally all of the case felts and buttons were replaced.
The soundboard and bridges are original and were restored. The soundboard decal was replaced to match the original. The pinblock is new as are the size two tuning pins and strings. The action was fully rebuilt with new Abel Natural Felt Hammers, shanks, flanges, and wippens. Both the front and balance rails received new key bushings. Fortunately the ivory keytops were saved and are beautiful!
When one thinks about a perfectly restored Steinway, this is what comes to mind... A piano with original elements perfectly restored: ie the soundboard and ivories, but all of the consumable parts - the action, strings, pinblock, etc replaced with the best parts available.
The sound is rich, full, and robust with the classic Steinway brightness. The resonance is something that one must behold in person! |
